Katie Kenyon, Village Green RVA, Richmond, Virginia

Village Green RVA strives to make healthy food and family support accessible to the underserved community. Focusing on children in care (foster, adoptive, kinship, biological) and their families, single parent, and senior adults, the program will offer healthy and sustainable food while providing supportive life and career programs.

The kitchen will provide “grab and go’ type meals for the greater community to purchase to help offset the cost of the free food given through the program. Meals will be purchased using a “buy one, give one” model.

20.3 percent of Richmond c city residents experience food insecurity. In this church neighborhood, seniors and families headed by single mothers make up a significant portion of the population. Children in care are a demographic often overlooked and underserved.
